Phishing
Posted on December 4th, 2008 at 6:29 pm by ssisdolly and

“phishing” — a play on the word “fishing” — because the fraudster is fishing for your private account information. Typically, fraudsters try to trick you into providing your user name and password so that they can gain access to an online account. Fraudsters send fake emails or set up fake web sites that mimic Yahoo!’s sign-in pages (or the sign-in pages of other trusted companies, such as eBay, Google or PayPal) to trick you into disclosing your user name and password. Once they gain access, they can use your personal information to commit identity theft, charge your credit cards, empty your bank accounts, read your email, and lock you out of your online account by changing your password.

Trojan Horse
Posted on December 3rd, 2008 at 12:35 am by ssisdolly and

A Trojan horse program comes with a hidden surprise intended by the programmer but unexpected by the user. Trojan horses are often designed to cause damage or do something malicious to a system, but are disguised as something useful. Unlike viruses, Trojan horses don’t make copies of themselves. Like viruses, they can cause significant damage to a computer.

Worm
Posted on December 3rd, 2008 at 12:11 am by ssisdolly and

A worm is similar to a virus by design and is considered to be a sub-class of a virus. Worms spread from computer to computer, but unlike a virus, it has the capability to travel without any human action. A worm takes advantage of file or information transport features on your system, which is what allows it to travel unaided. The worm may do damage and compromise the security of the computer. It may arrive in the form of a joke program or software of some sort. Unlike a virus, it does not attach itself to a host program.

Virus
Posted on December 2nd, 2008 at 11:54 pm by ssisdolly and

A virus is a program that spreads itself by infecting other programs on the same computer or laptop. Viruses can do serious damage, such as erasing your files or your whole disk. However, they may just do silly things like pop up a window that says “Ha ha you are infected! Please download this program to help you clean the virus”. While you download the program, you are actually downloading the virus. True viruses cannot spread to a new computer without human assistance, such as if you trade files with a friend and give him an infected file (such as on a thumb drive or by an email).

Example of Virus:

Word Maco- Attach and spread through Microsoft Word and Excel files

Subject: Important Message From ” Application. User Name Message “Here is that document you asked for … don’t show anyone else ;-) “ Attachment
Or
Subject: Resume for Janet Simons
